Welcome to the LWV
of Saginaw County

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, has fought since 1920 to improve our systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. The League's enduring vitality and resonance comes from its unique decentralized structure.

The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the League is wholeheartedly political and works to influence policy through advocacy. It is the original grassroots citizen network, directed by the consensus of its members nationwide.

Clean Air Clean Water

Dear Maureen,
For the first time ever, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has proposed limits on carbon pollution from power plants, a move that would have important public health and environmental benefits.  We encourage you to join League, environmental, and health advocates across the country in expressing support for these standards to improve air quality and public health.
Greenhouse gas pollution threatens our health and welfare and leads to long-lasting climate changes that have a range of negative effects on human health and the environment.  Power plants are the largest sources of carbon pollution in the country and this regulation is an historic first step to limiting their emissions.   Although the rule will not apply to plants that are currently operating or built within the next year, we need to show strong support for EPA’s proposal on new plants to ensure that there will be political support for taking the next step -- controlling carbon pollution from existing power plants!
