Welcome to the LWV
of Saginaw County

The League of Women Voters, a nonpartisan political organization, has fought since 1920 to improve our systems of government and impact public policies through citizen education and advocacy. The League's enduring vitality and resonance comes from its unique decentralized structure.

The League of Women Voters is strictly nonpartisan; it neither supports nor opposes candidates for office at any level of government. At the same time, the League is wholeheartedly political and works to influence policy through advocacy. It is the original grassroots citizen network, directed by the consensus of its members nationwide.

Alternative Voting Systems Study and Consensus

The Presidential election of 2000, where the outcome was still in doubt 3 weeks later, challenged America’s complacency about the accuracy and fairness of our plurality voting system. In fact, several other democratic nations use a variety of voting systems to conduct elections.

The LWVMI is conducting a study of some of these alternate voting systems to answer the following question: Is the current method of plurality voting adequate under all circumstances, or should alternate systems be recommended?

Sherrill Smith will lead the discussion of 3 alternate voting methods, and lead the group through the consensus process.

Since this is a consensus meeting, no guests are allowed. Only LWV local members can participate.
